“The Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) commends House Public Education Chairman Dan Huberty for filing HB 21, a plan to modernize and improve the state’s school finance system. The bill proposes to increase the basic allotment for all public schools. It also creates a new allotment for students with dyslexia.
We need to get into the details, but we applaud the Chairman for working to make a more transparent system. The legislation is a good starting point, and aims to correct systemic failures in a dated finance scheme. However, students at public charter schools need facilities funding and we still have a lot of work to do in that area. TCSA pledges to work with Chairman Huberty and others to formulate a bill that fairly funds all public schools, including public charter schools.”
